The Iron & Wine Obsession Hits Full-Blown: The Devil Never Sleeps
Awesomeness wrapped in hi-fives and sprinkled with delight: songs, thoughts, enjoyments, and videos to relish in.
Well, life. That’s it. That’s all I have to say
Nah, life has been changing, shifting, and moving all around me- all great changes, but changes still. It is a lot to take in and a good reminder that so much of life is enjoying the ride.
With all of these changes comes a lot of arranging my time and sorting through the busy-ness. My mind has become task-oriented, somewhere I think of as Checklist Central, and while checklists are great, my head really does not need to create and carry them around with me all of the time.
So the idea is prioritizing, taking the checklists out of my head and onto to paper, and aside from that, letting it go. Relaxing into it. Making things as effortless and delightful as possible. This is a mental shift and it requires trust, faith, and understanding that it is not busy-ness that provides security or solves problems, a calm mind and belief in ourselves and our abilities does.
When I started thinking of the music picks for this week, I will admit I was pretty grumpy. The inside of my head felt like a sad place, and the hot chocolate I made for a little cheer fell short (rice milk instead of coconut milk- blech). So, I started thinking of songs that brought out some magic and joy. The picks for this week are all special- they are not the newest rage (they aren’t really ever- are they?), but they are all beautiful.
Iron and Wine is on with Boy with a Coin- the song itself is just gorgeous, but the video takes on a dusty kinda of elegance with these amazing dancers (maybe flamenco dancers?)
White Winter Hymnal is on here with the magical video in which they have created another world, one in which the sun and moon travel due to the spinning of a wheel.
And Rusko, oh Rusko. This video shows him in fully in his element and loving every minute of it. It always deeply inspires me to see this video and how into his dub-step creations he is. It’s a great song too
After hearing all of these and watching the videos, my head space got bigger than my own sad corner, and I felt the magic, joy, and more benevolence towards the world.
Yeah, love that show. While the fun behind is multi-factorial: Tim Gunn’s euphemisms, Heidi Klum’s stern humor, and the cattiness between designers, there is one reason I really enjoy the show: the creative process.
I love watching these talented folks (some more than others) work through these problems and see what they can create in short time spans, ridiculous materials, and lack of sleep. I also find it interesting to see how people deal with things as the difficulty increaases due to pressure and exhaustion. The folks I respect are the ones that can keep their head on their shoulders, stay calm, and maintain kindness while dealing with stress. It is always easier said then done to be kind when things are going haywire, but that is a quality I respect. I think it shows connection to the greater knowledge of what is, whatever that may mean to you.
So hopefully since the last post you downloaded and listened to Girl Talk’s new album All Day. To up the awesome even more, check out http://mashupbreakdown.com/ for the lay-out of the songs. This is a great asset if you get the “Oh, what song is this clip from?!?” crazies. I got those when I started listening to Girl Talk because our brain is always trying to figure out recognition like that, but when you get used to the mash-up style, you enjoy the clips in a new form as a new whole.
Post-script: Track 2 is my current fav.
